6 Reasons to Backpack with Girlfriends

Posted by

Before I share my reasons why, let me first start by saying; it’s for better health and happiness period! Research published by Michigan State University supports that friendships are a strong predictor of health and happiness and get stronger as we age.  In fact, when it comes to your happiness meter, they may be more important than relationships with family. But that’s not all, here are my 6 reasons why; for those that need more inspiration to get your Girl Tribe together and start planning your outdoor adventure!

Why Not?

If we can do it, so can you!  Everyone should have this on their bucket list.  As you know, we are not hard core backpackers based on what we pack – it’s more about #GToutdoors (my new #) – like it?  Means Girl Time Outdoors, Girl Trip Outdoors, and/or Girl Tribe Outdoors 🙂 It’s a seasonal thing for us that we look forward to each year.   And although we have done and do plenty of other girl trips, this is the one that we are all committed to make happen each year.

The Challenge

Getting on a plane and staying in a hotel doesn’t really challenge you mentally or physically.  This kind of trip requires a very different mind set that will make you uncomfortable at times – and that’s ok, because it comes with great rewards.  Just think about it, if you are a true beginner, you get to experience your first feeling of:

Accomplishment – nothing like getting to your location with a full backpack by sheer strength and determination!

Discomfort – using a pit toilet will require you to learn a technique called “breathing through your mouth”! 🙂 Or cover it all together!

The Experience

I guarentee the experience will leave you will a great sense of empowerment and will create more meaningful connections within your tribe.  I would also argue that you have more time to sit around telling stories, talking and laughing on this kind of trip.  Think about it – all of that time you spend getting ready to go out in the evening for dinner or wherever your night takes you – none of that happens when you backpack. It’s good to take a break from the “getting ready” routine – no showers, no make up (or very little) 🙂  Plus you all get to cross this experience off your bucket/goal list – check!

Being in Nature

In addition to the quality time spent with friends, you learn the value of nature and spending time in it!  Being outdoors away from day to day life, brings you a sense of peace and joy.  I can truly be in the moment in nature, which is a very hard thing to in daily life.  Not having access to social media or email is a blessing!!!  Yes, we all have our phones, but it’s for taking pictures.  If you need scientific evidence it’s good for you – check out these 11 reasons.

The Giggles

Oh boy – the amount of giggles are priceless!  You will be bonding over and laughing at things that are truly unique to your environment. Not only the mishaps, but the funny things you end up wearing and doing.  No reason you still can’t participate in a spa day either – LOL.

The Love

Friendship is all about trusting each other, helping each other, loving each other and being silly together!

You will need all of these on your trip, plus some patience and grace!

Make it happen!

Aloha,

Inky
